Overview. For GIZ, Social Lab ran a knowledge-sharing and capacity-building programme reaching 37 Farmer Producer Organisations across 6 districts — engaging 77 participants to implement biochar and city-compost models that turn waste into agricultural wealth.

The problem
- Agricultural waste is often burned, yet it holds immense potential.
- Declining soil fertility remains a major challenge.
- Closing the urban–rural nutrient cycle is crucial.
Farmer Producer Organisations needed the knowledge and capacity to adopt biochar and city-compost models — linking urban organic waste to productive, sustainable agriculture.
Social Lab introduced FPOs to biochar and city compost as sustainable solutions, then engaged them in workshops to develop and validate ready-to-implement business models for biochar and TPS production.

Results
Participating FPOs included Mahaswarajya FPC, MAVIM, Krushikonnait FPC, MahaFPO, Wainganga Valley FPC and Mahakisan Vriddhi Agro FPC.
