Overview. Social Lab ran NSDC-aligned capacity-building workshops for sanitation staff (safai karmacharis) across 20 locations, training over 1,753 participants in cleaning techniques, PPE, teamwork, communication and documentation.
The challenge
Safai karmacharis are integral to source segregation and scientific waste processing, yet the nature of their work exposes them to serious health risks. The Swachh Survekshan initiative identified an urgent need for capacity-building programs targeting them.
Our approach
Comprehensive workshops led by NSDC-certified trainers following the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) framework developed by the Skill Council for Green Jobs.
Modern, effective indoor and outdoor cleaning techniques for efficient waste removal while minimising health hazards.
Correct usage and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment to safeguard workers’ health.
Building collaboration, communication skills, and accurate record-keeping and incident reporting.
